Everything that Rylan heard about proposals had been the same. The girl always mentioned how the guy was acting strange or nervous, she just knew something was going on. But that honestly didn’t make any sense to Rylan. Once you actually made the decision that this was the person you wanted to spend the rest of your life with, what did the rest matter? Nerves over her saying yes? He wouldn’t be asking a woman to spend the rest of her life with him if he didn’t have some idea of how she felt. He leaned down, wrapping both of his arms around her waist as he stood behind her. “ Thank you for helping me plan the New Years party,” he said, quickly giving the side of her neck a kiss before he stood up straight.
Maybe the ring was burning a hole in his pocket. He felt more excited than anything, ready to start a new chapter in his life. Georgia had been the first person to ask him if he knew what he was doing, or if he was rushing into something. Yet, he had quickly pointed out that both her and Cole were living lives that most people would seem unsuitable for someone their age. What did it matter how old you were anyway? What was he supposed to be doing, sleeping around? That seemed more irresponsible than promising to spend the rest of your life with someone. “Want to come check the photo booth out with me before every one else gets here?” he said, giving a slanted smirk before tilting his head toward the door to gesture for her to follow him.

A New Years party after New Years? Wasn't unheard of in this group of people. Everyone was always so busy, with performances, their families and just other personal business, that it was kind of normal for them to celebrate New Years after the actual holiday. This year Rylan was throwing it and Melanie was asked to help. How exciting! Planning parties was a hobby of Melanie's. Her friends always asked for her input, whether it was for her awesome playlists or food ideas, Melanie was asked for something. Looking around at the room that had been empty just 4 hours earlier, Melanie smiled. It looked amazing and it hadn't even started yet. She closed her eyes when she felt Rylan's lips on her neck. "You're welcome, babe." she said as she turned to look at him, "Thank you for letting me help." Melanie placed a kiss on his lips and just looked up at him and smiled. God he was perfect and he was hers.
A Little Taste by Skyler Stonestreet played through the speakers and Melanie subtly moved along to the beat and she grabbed a scallop off one of the trays as the waiter walked by. "I'm so hungry." She quickly ate that and scanned the room for something else that she could quickly grab. "Oh, I'd love to!" Melanie said she as took Rylan's hand and followed him to the photo booth. "Okay, so what should we do? Something goofy or cute?"

Rylan couldn’t help but smile to himself as he watched Melanie getting a quick bite to eat. For being such a little thing, she could put away some food. But, in all genuine interest, he really did want her to get some food in. For the rest of the night people would be coming up to talk to her since everyone knew the hidden agenda behind the party was that of a proposal. “Okay,” he said as he sat down comfortably in the booth, taking Melanie’s hand before he pulled her into his lap so that her back was against his chest. “ Everything you do is goofy and cute,” he said as though it were obvious. “ Let’s do… silly faces.. and then the stereotypical kiss one,” he said, reaching his arm forward to push the buttons to get it ready.
He figured he would let it take one picture of them being silly before he would get the ring out and pop the question. “ Goofy picture first, okay?” he said, giving an excited squeeze around her waist. Rylan looked up at the screen as it gave a countdown before it would start taking a picture. Rylan gave a tickle on both sides of Melanie’s waist, before puffing his own cheeks out to try and make a silly face.

Melanie sat down on Rylan's lap and wiggled a little to get comfortable and not dig her tailbone into his leg. She scrunched her nose and smiled at him when he said everything she did was cute, "I'm glad you think so." Melanie quickly kissed his cheek and then looked back at the screen. "Okay, silly first. " she stuck her tongue out and then moved it to each side, just making faces at herself on the screen. She laughed a bit at herself. Melanie nodded when Rylan said silly first one more time. She watched Rylan reach forward to press the button and then back up to the screen as it began to countdown. She moved her head a bit to make sure she was in the picture as well. Melanie laughed out loud as Rylan tickled her and then heard the snap of the camera. "Not fair." she said as she tapped his hands lightly.

Rylan smiled, leaning forward so that his lips touched the back of her shoulder blade to try and hide the foolish grin across his face. It’s just that when she laughed it was pretty adorable. “ Okay, okay. My bad.. I’m sorry. Though, to be fair.. you’ve never instituted a hands off rule before, and if this is some sick new New Year’s resolution, I can’t say I am on board with it,” he said, stretching his lower legs out. He looked up at the timer and knew he had limited amount of time. The only downside to a photobooth proposal was that he didn’t really have the opportunity to do a long drawn out speech. He had to take the ring out, propose, make sure the moment got captured so that she could keep the picture forever.
“ Okay, just a cute one now,” he said keeping his eyes on the screen so that if she was looking into it too she wouldn’t see him looking down while trying to dig through his pocket. Rylan reached his right hand into his pocket, taking out the ring as he watched the countdown carefully. Just two seconds before the next flash was set to go off, he lift his hand into the air. “Melanie Elizabeth Thompson, start this new year and new life with me, marry me,” he said before lifting his eyebrows slightly while waiting for her response.

Melanie smirked and fluffed her hair as she watched the timer. "Definitely not on my list for resolutions this year." she said as she gave his hands a little squeeze before she let go and placed one arm around his neck and rested the other on her lap. "Cute now. You don't have to try hard, just smile." she smiled at him in the screen and then prepared herself for the click sound again. Just seconds before the camera snapped, Rylan pulled out this huge ring and asked her to marry him. Was this expected? Not even a little. Melanie's hands instinctively came up to her mouth as she gasped. Her eyes started to tear up and she nodded her head. "YES! Yes. Yes!" she said excitedly and completely surprised. She held her left hand out so Rylan could slip the ring on her finger. Her eyes got bigger and bigger as she looked at it. It was heavy. Melanie put her hands on Rylan's face and she kissed him so passionately. She almost forgot where she was until she heard a third snap. Melanie wiped away her tears and smiled at Rylan. She wrapped her arms around his neck one last time and held her left hand up to show the ring off as the last picture snapped. Melanie stayed seated in his lap and just stared down at thr ring. Was this real life?

Rylan started to laugh at her eager response, but was quickly finding out how excited she was by how quickly she kissed him. He brought his hand up into the side of her hair, pulling her as close to him as he possibly could. “ Are you sure?” he asked jokingly, paired with a laugh, as she watched her look back at the ring on her hand. Rylan took in a deep breath, snaking his arm back around her body as he placed his chin on her shoulder to look down at the ring on her finger as well. It looked perfect, like there was nowhere else that it could belong. “ Thank God,” he said, kissing the side of her neck again.
“ I have another slight confession to make,” he said. Though, he had no intention of moving out of the photobooth just yet. He felt comfortable in this moment, like it was just theirs. “ This party that you’ve helped me plan… it’s not for New Years. It’s for you,” he said bringing his hand up to hold beneath hers so that he could look down at the ring on her finger again. Rylan moved on the bench, keeping her in his lap, but turned so that he was facing her. “ I cannot express how happy you have made me,” he said, smiling before he leaned up to give her another kiss, pulling her in tightly by placing his hands on her lower back.

Melanie smiled when Rylan asked if she was sure, "I have never been more sure of anything in my entire life, Rylan. I love you, so much." This was real life. Melanie was engaged. She definitely did not see that coming. It's not that she had any doubts about Rylan because he never did anything to make her doubt him, it was just the fact that this was Rylan Lion we were talking about. He was so carefree about a lot and settling down right now just didn't seem like something he'd do. "Were you afraid I was going to say no?" Melanie joked as he said Thank God.
"Oh, so you just knew I was going to say yes, huh?" she joked again, "That would've been a bit awkward if I had said no.." she smiled again. It seemed like all she could do was smile. He had just made her the happiest girl in the universe right now. Nothing could take away from this great feeling she had. Nothing at all. He was saying that she had no idea how happy she made him, but she had an idea when he pulled her closer into him as they kissed. Melanie brought both hands to the side of Rylan's face and then slid her left hand back to his hair and gave a slight tug as she kissed him. This was perfect. This right here. She didn't need a fancy party. The night would be perfect if it continued just like this. But, there was a party about to be happening in the next room and they would be interrupted. She kissed him for a few moments longer and then stopped, smiling at him. "We'll save the rest for the after party." Melanie threw him a wink, bit her lip gently and then kissed him one last time.

Rylan lift his eyebrows, not saying anything as she teasingly questioned about him knowing whether or not she would say yes. In all honesty, he was 99 percent certain she would. But then there was always that 1 percent that she might hit him, saying they were too young and had been together for too short amount of time. But, he had been right about them being on the same page. He lift the left side of his lips into a smirk as she promised to continue what they had started in the photo booth after the party. “I mean I can cancel the party,” he said jokingly in a lazy tone before he puled himself up out of the bench and made his way out of the photobooth. Rylan looked over his shoulder, holding his hand out to Melanie so that he could hold his fiance’s hand as they walked into the party.
Because his friends were so amazing, or maybe because he had begged, they had somehow managed to get there quietly without alerting Melanie what was going on. Dead silence for what was probably ten minutes before they even stepped into the photobooth. He looked down at her, giving her one last smile, one last moment that they had to themselves before he took a deep breath and pushed open the door to the ball room that was adjacent to all of the other party decorations. “ She said yes,” he said excitedly, lifting her hand to his lips so that he could kiss her knuckles.
